Let’s Get Interactive with Notebooks!

Updated: Jun 29, 2020

It is not a real secret that I love anything digital. Integrating and incorporating digital resources into my classroom is an absolute must, especially with the Blended Learning Model. I believe that student's learn best when they are able to create and showcase their work in multiple ways, instead of with a paper and pencil.

I was blessed to attend a conference with friEdTechnology two years ago that changed my whole philosophy of teaching. Personalized learning is a focus of mine and knowing every student's name, strengths, and needs allows for my teaching to grow each and every day. One way to personalize learning and incorporate the blended learning model is through the use of Digital Interactive Notebooks.

Digital Interactive Notebooks have all the benefits of a traditional student notebook-with NO PAPER! The templates are created in Google Slides and are made to be visually appealing and very interactive. Keeping kids engaged in what they are learning is a MUST, especially during this at-home learning journey.

I created a Interactive Notebook for the first week of school. It was a lot of fun and addicting! Once you start to create, the ideas will flow and you will start creating magical activities and notebooks for your students. Below is a gif of my back to school interactive notebook.

Here is the link of the interactive notebook if you would like to have a copy for your students.

To create these interactive notebooks, here are the steps to get you started:

  1. Create a new Google Slide Deck in your Google Drive

  2. Give your Google Slide Deck a title.

  3. Change the Page Setup so that you have grey space on the outside of your slide for directions, comments, interactive pieces, etc. (my preferences is to have my slides be 8" by 8").

  4. Start creating your slides.

- Add a title to your notebook.

- Add your content to the slides

- Add pictures to make it more appealing to students.

- Videos can be added as well if desired.

Creating a Digital Interactive Notebook can be challenging and a lot of work, but seeing your students engaged and focused on their learning will make it all worth it. Your students will love working on their notebooks digitally and creating new ideas through Google Slides. Now, what Digital Interactive Notebook are you going to create? Have fun creating and engaging your students during this at-home learning adventure!
